Water People Theater is a Latina-owned and led non-profit organization that believes in the transformative power of theater. For over two decades, we have been dedicated to producing socially-engaged bilingual and inclusive theater with and for Latinx audiences.
Our mission is to leverage the power of high-quality performances and educational offerings to advance social values and defend human rights. We aim to inspire diverse audiences to become change-makers contributing to a more equitable, just, and inclusive Chicago.

Water People Theater’s value statement is “We believe in the inclusive and transformative power of Theater”. Our mission is tied directly to bringing diverse talent and audiences together to create theater that informs, inspires, and motivates all participants to seek change and contribute to peace, respect and acceptance. We are committed to themes, messages and content that will create a sense of community, reach across ethnic and socioeconomic boundaries, and access underserved individuals and communities who may not have been exposed to theater.

During more than 20 years, WPT has mounted more than 27 theatrical productions, 21 theater seasons, 5 films in defense of Human Rights, 7 campaigns for peace, 12 participations in International Theater and Film Festivals and performances in Venezuela, New York, Chicago, Miami, Boston and Mexico City. It has received 2 ACE AWARDS-NYC and 1 ALTA AWARDS-Chicago. During 3 consecutive years (2017-2019), we opened the Chicago International Latino Theater Festival-“Destinos”, and we also inaugurated their International Cultural Exchange Program in México City. During 2020 has presented 44 online plays live, more than 260 Latino professionals located in Chicago and other cities around the world have participated, more than 9,000 spectators from the USA and different parts of the world have attended our virtual theater.
