REBECA ALEMÁN

Rebeca Alemán is a multidisciplinary artist born in Venezuela. She began studying piano at age five and was selected at seventeen to join Venezuela’s first

National Youth Theater Ensemble.

She trained in her home country as well as in New York City and London, alongside formal studies in Journalism, Media

Communication, and Music. In 2022, she continued her professional formation in Holstebro, Denmark, training with Eugenio Barba at the legendary

Odin Teatret, focusing on presence and theater anthropology.

Her career includes theater, film, and television, with leading roles in over 42 productions, portraying iconic historical and literary figures such as Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Frida Kahlo, Teresa Carreño, and Camila O’Gorman. Her career began in television at Radio Caracas Television, and she was an ensemble member for five years at Repertorio Español in New York City, where she received two ACE Awards. In 2025, for her role as Paulina in The Delicate Tears of the Waning Moon, she received the Talía Award (NYC) for Best Actress and earned a Jeff Award nomination in Chicago.

She is also a playwright and producer. Her play The Delicate Tears of the Waning Moon premiered at Steppenwolf Theatre (Chicago) and later ran at Los Angeles Theatre Center and Repertorio Español in New York City. The production was invited to major theater festivals in Miami, Dallas, and Santiago, Chile, including Teatro a Mil.

Her work also extends to film, where she has written, directed, and produced short films presented at international festivals, and she has served as a jury member for the Chicago International Latino Film Festival. 

In 2001, she founded Water People Theater. She is the author of six plays and has produced more than 21 theatrical works, collaborating with artists, institutions, and communities internationally. She is the Founder and Executive Artistic Director of Water People Theater and is deeply committed to social engagement and human connection.
